The construction of the Sainte-Catherine church must be linked to the foundation of the new town of Villefranche d'Orlinde (today Bretenoux), by Guérin de Castelnau, shortly before 1277\. The church of the bastide has long been a simple annex of Notre-Dame de Félines (town of Prudhomat), until it was elevated to the rank of parish church, replacing the mother church, in the eighteenth century. Although the building is often attributed to the modern era, its analysis shows that it retains important parts of the Middle Ages, including the chevet dating from the last quarter of the thirteenth century, and therefore contemporary with the founding of the city. A first chapel was added to the north probably in the fourteenth or early fifteenth century, then a second in the south during the fifteenth century.
The construction of a second chapel to the north in 1635, date inscribed on the lintel of the window, is accompanied by the reconstruction of the western part of the nave. The last impor
