The castle of Mazères was built in the thirteenth century then regularly enlarged and transformed until finding its current appearance in the eighteenth century. It was the country residence of the archbishops of Auch. Sold as a national property during the Revolution, it was inhabited until the beginning of the twentieth century. Transformed into a military hospital during the First World War, it was then largely abandoned. Having lost roof and floors, it was saved in 1981 and has been the subject of regular restoration campaigns for 35 years.

The Château de Mazères is located east of the D939 (Mirande Road – Condom), about 3 km south of the town of Le Brouilh – Monbert. The entrance is easily visible from the road, and is made by a plane tree driveway located just south of a small group of houses.
