The castle of Durbelière is built on the location of a more old(former) building, between 1440 and 1460 by the family Of Rorthais. Remain(Subsist) of this time(period) the tower with cut pieces and the wall of surrounding wall(speaker) with its bartizans of angle. The castle is altered and prettified(altered and become more attractive) at the beginning of the XVIIth century; the old(former) drawbridges are replaced with still bridges(decks), the terrace lining staves(moats) medal recipient of one baluster, the current entry porch is built, which carries the date of 1631 and the weapons of Pierre De Meulles and of his wife Renée De Rorthais. The old(former) common(shared) which close the court(yard) on 80 metres long, become today buildings(ships) of farm, end on the West with a long gallery adorned with columns and which served as merry-go-round(riding school). Durbelière is passed on(transmitted) by alliance(wedding ring) in 1679 to the family Of the Vergier De la Rochejaquelein. Henry De la Rochejaquelein is born there on August 30th, 1772; it is in the court(yard) of the castle that the Catholic Généralissime de l' Armée pronounces on April 13th, 1793, famous words: "If I move forward, follow me, if I move(put) back, kill me, if I die, avenge me. "During fights, which devastate the region in 1793 and 1794, the castle of Durbelière is burnt down on five occasions by the republican troops of the general Westermann. The ruins of Durbelière always belong to the descendants of the De la Rochejaquelein, surrounded with ponds and with ancient trees.
