In the 14th century, the hundred years' War forced the church to be fortified and used as a point of resistance. This church is the only one of the Landes to have preserved its fortified appearance almost intact. The interior no longer shows any trace of what it could be in the Romanesque and Gothic eras. The current paneled vault may have replaced a full-arched and then Gothic vault during the elevation of the church in the 14th century. The nave is lit by repierced bays in the 18th century, as well as the choir. In the 14th century, the whole was raised and crowned with a path of round archers. The 12th century bell tower was transformed into a keep. To the south, the nave is supported by five large buttresses dividing the wall into isolated compartments suitable for an individual defense. The semicircular bedside is also supported by buttresses. The path of round continues above the bedside, without closure, suggesting that at this place the defenses were made in open air.
