Centre de musique baroque de Versailles
22 Avenue de Paris, 78000 Versailles, France
The buildings that now house the Baroque Music Center of Versailles were built between 1741 and 1748, on land purchased by Louis XV, to house the administration of the King’s menus-pleasures. With many large rooms, the Hotel allowed to store accessories, decorations, etc. Used for theater and opera performances at parties given before the Court in Versailles. It was enlarged in 1786 by the construction of a store. It was also there that the Intendant of menus-Plaisirs housed and worked, in charge of the administration of shows and performances at the Castle (one of them, Denis Papillon de la Ferté, left his Journal which informs us about the institution on the eve of the Revolution).
