After playfully subverting the discourse on painting in the duo “L’amour de l’art,” Stéphanie Aflalo ventures into another realm related to theater by taking on the star system and the entertainment industry in a solo performance. Presented as a scripted concert, “Live” successfully pulls off the daring feat of reimagining the conventions of grandiose shows that electrify entire stadiums. With her biting humor, devastating charm, playful personality, and formidable sense of drama, the singer-songwriter creates a frenetic medley of songs on the spot. Under the performer’s guidance, the mundane becomes poetic, and doubt becomes charismatic. Laughter and tears intertwine; self-deprecation and emotion engage in a dialogue; exaggeration and subtlety alternate with extraordinary intensity and creativity.
