Between dunes, mangroves and hills, Léo Lérus composes an ode to fragile living worlds. On the open-air stage of L’Ariana, the Guadeloupean artist, trained in both contemporary dance and the rhythms of traditional gwoka, shapes a hybrid choreographic language that is at once rooted and resolutely contemporary. Created for four dancers, Gounouj – “frog” in Creole – was born from an immersion in the protected landscape of Gros-Morne/Grande-Anse. Here, choreography conjures an entire ecosystem: vibrant, teeming and threatened by present and future ecological upheavals.
Half-human, half-amphibian creatures, the performers move through a sensory landscape alive with birdsong, sea winds and nocturnal croaks. Nourished by the rhythms of gwoka and the Creole notion of bousyè – a state of vulnerability necessary for transformation – Gounouj in situ explores the tensions between strength and fragility, melancholy and revolt. A physical, delicate and deeply inhabited work that transforms the stage into a shifting ecosystem, celebrating the possibility of a new balance.

Entre dunes, mangroves et collines, Léo Lérus compose une ode au vivant fragile. Sur la scène extérieure de l’Ariana, l’artiste guadeloupéen, formé à la musique et aux danses du gwoka traditionnel, dessine une pratique hybride, enracinée et contemporaine. Pièce pour quatre danseur·ses, Gounouj - « grenouille » en créole, est née d’une immersion dans le site protégé de Grande Anse et Gros Morne. Le langage chorégraphique de Léo Lérus fait surgir le monde, un paysage vibrant, grouillant, menacé par les bouleversements écologiques présents et à venir.
Mi-humains, mi-créatures amphibies, les corps évoluent dans un paysage sensoriel foisonnant de chants d’oiseaux, de souffle marin et de coassements nocturnes. Impregnée des rythmes du gwoka et inspirée par l’idée de bousyè – mot créole qui décrit la mue d’un crustacé, donc un état de vulnérabilité nécessaire à une transformation – Gounouj in situ explore les tensions entre force et fragilité, mélancolie et révolte. Une danse physique, délicate et habitée, qui transforme la scène en écosystème mouvant et célèbre la possibilité d’un nouvel équilibre.
