To tie in with the exhibition “What is the future?”, a series of free films brought to us straight from the future is on offer as part of the MEG’s famous Sunday film screenings.
The MEG is delighted to be partnering with the FILMAR en América Latina festival for an evening dedicated to Violeta Parra.

The actress and singer Francisca Gavilán plays and portrays Violeta Parra in this drama adapted from the book of the same name by the artist’s son, Ángel Parra. Set to the music of Violeta’s songs, the film paints a portrait of a free-spirited, passionate woman committed to promoting Chilean folk culture, from her rural beginnings to her travels in Europe, via her love affair with the Swiss musician Gilbert Favre.
The screening will be followed by drinks and a mini-peña led by Jorge Pacheco Escobar and his musicians.
Jorge Pacheco Escobar____: A Chilean composer, guitarist, singer and researcher, his work blends traditional Latin American music, jazz, rock and contemporary composition. Based in Geneva since 2016, he divides his career between Latin America and Europe. He is conducting research into the relationship between music, territory and identity as part of the Master’s programme in ethnomusicology in French-speaking Switzerland.

Le MEG a le plaisir de s'associer au festival FILMAR en América Latina pour une soirée autour de Violeta Parra.
Violeta Parra (1917-1967), musicienne, chanteuse, poète et artiste chilienne, a entrepris dans les années 1950 un travail de collecte des traditions musicales de son pays. Animée par la vocation de faire entendre et reconnaître ces musiques, elle parcourt plusieurs régions du Chili, munie de son enregistreur, à la rencontre de chanteur-euse-s. En 1963, alors qu’elle réside à Genève, elle remet au Musée d’ethnographie de Genève (MEG) quatre bandes magnétiques réunissant une sélection de ses collectes, des démonstrations musicales et quelques compositions. À partir de ce fonds sonore récemment documenté par le MEG, la soirée propose de redécouvrir l’apport de Violeta Parra à l’histoire des traditions musicales du Chili.

L’actrice et chanteuse Francisca Gavilán incarne et interprète Violeta Parra dans cette fiction adaptée du livre éponyme du fils de l’artiste, Ángel Parra. Porté par les chansons de Violeta, le film dessine le portrait d’une femme libre, passionnée et engagée dans la valorisation des cultures populaires chiliennes, de ses débuts ruraux à ses voyages en Europe en passant par son histoire d’amour avec le Suisse Gilbert Favre.
La projection sera suivie d'un apéritif et d'une mini-peña par Jorge Pacheco Escobar et ses musicien-ne-s.
Jorge Pacheco Escobar : Compositeur, guitariste, chanteur et chercheur chilien, son travail croise musiques traditionnelles latino-américaines, jazz, rock et création contemporaine. Installé à Genève depuis 2016, il mène une carrière entre l’Amérique latine et l’Europe. Il mène des recherches sur le thème des relations entre musique, territoire et identité dans le cadre du Master en ethnomusicologie de Suisse romande.
