Die Ausstellung hat zum Ziel, der Öffentlichkeit alle Fotografien von Jean-Baptiste Tournassoud (1866-1951) zu zeigen und die Übereinstimmungen hervorzuheben, die sich zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts zwischen fotografischer Praxis und malerischem Schaffen etablieren. The exhibition aims to reveal to the public the complete photographic work of Jean-Baptiste Tournassoud (1866-1951) and to highlight the connections that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century between photographic practice and pictorial creation. The proposed approach invites visitors to explore the links between the two mediums through their perspectives on the rural world and its evolution during the 20th century.
Beyond the aesthetic vision championed by painters such as Jean Laronze, Honoré Hugrel, Marius Mangier, and photographer Jean-Baptiste Tournassoud regarding peasant life, other approaches arose that prioritized the collection of memories of a world undergoing profound transformation. This is the case with historians and early ethnologists like Gabriel Jeanton, Emile Violet, and Andrée Manziat, who used drawing and photography to preserve the activities and objects that characterized the daily lives of farmers in the Mâcon and Bresse regions.
While the exhibition primarily focuses on the 20th century, it also explores contemporary approaches. Painting remains a prominent element, as demonstrated by the works of Julien Beneyton (born in 1977) and Abel Tournissoux (born in 1994), and other media are showcased through the work of Jean-Baptiste Perret (born in 1984), for whom video is a preferred method of depicting the agricultural world. Fiction sometimes intertwines with reality, evoking the approach of Nina Ferrer Gleize, whose photographs lie at the intersection of artistic creation and scientific inquiry.
The exhibition has been awarded the "Bicentennial of Photography" and "Exhibition of National Interest" labels.
