The museum is located in a beautiful half-timbered house, built in 1590 and inhabited by Jewish families continuously from 1680 to 1922\. We still discover the mikveh of 1710 and, in the kitchen, a flat oven that could well have been designed for baking unleavened breads from the feast of Passover. The collection of objects from the Jewish cult gives an idea of the importance of this community in the past. You will notice, in particular, an astonishing curtain of the holy ark (1857) coming from the synagogue of Quatzenheim. In 2019, the museum of art and popular traditions of Marmoutier received five original lithographs by the great painter and child of the country, Alphonse Lévy.
