Historic stroll in the heart of the Bon Sauveur d'Alby Foundation

From the entrance on rue Lavazière, go for a stroll along the historic buildings of the Fondation Bon Sauveur d'Alby.
This route, which allows access to the various sites and exhibitions, invites you to walk along the historic buildings of the Foundation. Through the gardens and the old part of this emblematic psychiatric hospital of the Tarn, still in activity, you will discover little by little the architecture of the places and the history of this singular institution, whose origin goes back to 200 years.
A visit that is at the same time heritage, cultural and original, rich in discoveries. The volunteer members of APAPA, the Association Psychiatrie Art Patrimoine Albigeois, will accompany visitors and comment on the different locations.

Entering from the street LAVAZIERE by the monumental door topped with a tympanum representing JESUS blessing children or by the boulevard of the LUDE, one is immediately seized by the size of the buildings and their beauty, Here no austerity but the view is clear by opening on beds creating a harmonious whole. Walking along the alleys we see, from the administrative entrance of the establishment, the entrance of the current Retirement House (not visitable) extended by its magnificent cloister (visible from the chapel) This building is crowned with a stone baluster that ends at each end by a pedestal surmounted by a very artistic stone vase. Then you pass by different buildings on the left and right , the rotunda, the emblematic old buildings to arrive at the château du Lude and below its museum of asilaire art (related to de l' Art Brut) and in front is the large chapel and the cloister (open to the public during heritage days) .
