Under coffered ceilings "in the bracken" (the XVIIth century s.), understand the evolution of the city of Saint-Étienne since the legend of gagats, the village strengthened by the XVth century up to the industrial city of the XIXth century.
Discover the memory of the city across paintings(boards), photographies, model of the city in 1445, plan of 1773 without forgetting one of the most old(former) rail tickets of world (1834).

The museum is installed(settled) in a mansion of the XVIIth century (dating of about 1658) possessing vaulted rooms, woodworks, French-style ceiling at the ground floor, coffered ceilings with brackens (XVIIth century) and with boxes (XVIIIth century) and woodworks on the first floor.
