Why the MEL?
The European Commission is currently considering the creation of a network of 100 carbon-neutral European cities by 2030. To this end, it is developing preparatory work with many actors in the field, including local authorities. The European Metropolis of Lille is the only French institution that has been invited by the European Commission to participate in this reflection.
If it was chosen, it is because it is a driving territory on the issue of urban climate transition. But also, a European player now identified, notably by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, with whom it regularly exchanges around topics such as digitalisation, improving mobility solutions, reducing noise or improving air quality.
The webinar on May 28 is an opportunity for the Metropolitan to reflect on the possibility of accelerating the move towards carbon neutrality in a part of the territory or in certain sectors.
And for the MEL, to be able to send back to the European Commission the opinions of Métropolitains, opinions coming from the field in order to improve the organization of this mission «100 carbon-neutral cities by 2030».
