Aâma proposed by Jazz à Vel'a to
Born from the meeting between guitarist Bertrand Maïlar and singer Emma Prat, Aâma was born in Lille in 2023, joined by Sami Foukani-Descamps on double bass, Julien Girard on piano and Xavier Pernet on drums and percussion. Influenced by musicians from various backgrounds (Anne Paceo, Lionel Loueke, Carla Bley...) as well as popular music from Chad and Lebanon, the quintet offers a jazz open to traditional music, song and sound experimentation.
Solar and hypnotic, alchemical and shamanic, the quintet explores the frontiers of jazz and combines oriental melodies with the sounds of Central Africa. Based on instrumental and vocal flights and a hint of progressive rock, Aâma ('global', 'common') makes her own playground, placing sharing, emotional engagement and improvisation at the center of her creative process.

Né de la rencontre entre le guitariste Bertrand Maïlar et la chanteuse Emma Prat, Aâma voit le jour à Lille en 2023, rejoint par Sami Foukani-Descamps à la contrebasse, Julien Girard au piano et Xavier Pernet à la batterie et aux percussions. Influencé par des musicien·ne·s d’horizons variés (Anne Paceo, Lionel Loueke, Carla Bley...) ainsi que par les musiques populaires du Tchad et du Liban, le quintet propose un jazz ouvert sur les musiques traditionnelles, la chanson et l’expérimentation sonore.
Solaire et hypnotique, alchimique et chamanique, le quintet explore les frontières du jazz et fait cohabiter les mélodies orientales et les sonorités d’Afrique Centrale. À base d’envolées instrumentales et vocales et d’une pointe de rock progressif, Aâma (« global », « commun ») fabrique son propre terrain de jeu, plaçant le partage, l’engagement émotionnel et l’improvisation au centre de sa démarche créative.

Aâma, geboren uit de ontmoeting tussen gitarist Bertrand Maïlar en zanger Emma Prat, werd in 2023 geboren in Lille, vergezeld door Sami Foukani-Descamps op dubbele bas, Julien Girard op piano en Xavier Pernet op drums en percussie. Beïnvloed door muzikanten met verschillende achtergronden (Anne Paceo, Lionel Loueke, Carla Bley...) Naast populaire muziek uit Tsjaad en Libanon biedt het kwintet een jazz die open staat voor traditionele muziek, liedjes en geluidsexperimenten.
Zonne- en hypnotische, alchemische en sjamanische, het kwintet verkent de grenzen van jazz en combineert oosterse melodieën met de geluiden van Centraal-Afrika. Op basis van instrumentale en vocale vluchten en een vleugje progressieve rock maakt Aâma ('Global', 'common') haar eigen speeltuin, waarbij delen, emotionele betrokkenheid en improvisatie centraal staan in haar creatieve proces.
