Covering 13000 hectares at the heart of the Camargue, the national reserve of the Camargue is a part of the biggest(greatest) reserves of wetlands of Europe. Its large territory all in one piece, located on the municipalities of Arles and of Saintes Maries de la Mer, benefits from an entire protection. Originality and international heritage interest of the reserve of the Camargue domiciles(resides) in the diversity of its housing environments and of sorts(species) which occupy them (especially 276 sorts(species) of birds among which 258 of the heritage interest), as well as in its ecological functioning. The site was officially listed(classified) in national reserve on April 24th, 1975
