About the location

Église Saint-Ay
Place de l'Eglise, 45130 Saint-Ay
  • Loiret
  • Centre-Val de Loire
She(It) dates the XIIth century and is built of beige, hard limestone, has ̀ porosite ́ vermiculée, said "stone of the Chapel" probably extracted from Saint-Ay and its surroundings which contained many careers(quarries). It was built on the foundations of a chapel of Merovingian origin raised(brought up) by Agylus and devoted to Notre-Dame. Capitals(Big tops) and bases of six pillars closer of the chorus(choir) have certain invoice(making) of this time(period). She(It) is in this title registered on the classification(ranking) of Historic monuments. The church of Saint-Ay depends closely on legend of holy Ay or Agylus which after " its divine punishment " on the grave of Saint-Mesmin would have also built on the future village of Saint-Ay a chapel devoted to Notre-Dame in which he was buried. The dedication to Notre-Dame is a good indicator(informer) of the presence of a church of the first Middle Ages which mark an old(former) place of worship.
