I’m Sara and I make berets in Orthez. This exhibition aims to introduce you to the different stages of manufacturing, specific to my craft workshop which is the last in the world.
Thus, even if the manufacturing principle remains the same in my workshop or at the manufacturers, the manufacturing process is not identical. To begin with, what is a beret? The beret consists of a tray, a tail, and a frosted cap. The beret is worn in different ways, depending on whether you are a woman or a man, big or small, large or fine, hairy or not! Besides the color, the size of the tray will be decisive. There are 6 tray sizes: 9, 91/2, 10, 101/2, 11 and 12 inches. In the world of the beret, the thumb is neither English nor the king… it corresponds to 2.8 cm. I invite you to come and discover how I make a beret.
