About the location

Ancienne abbaye de Saint-Sever-de-Rustan
Place d'Espagne, 65140 Saint-Sever-de-Rustan
  • Hautes-Pyrénées
  • Occitanie
The former Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Sever-de-rustan, which is protected as a Historical Monument, is mentioned for the first time on an 11th-century document. The architecture of this abbey located at the gates of the Bigorre, shows the turbulent history of the region. From the Romanesque capitals to the Gothic vault, from the classical façades to the splendour of the Louis XV woodwork, the Abbey of Saint-Sever-de-rustan reaches us, from destruction to reconstruction, like a true digest of art history! The abbey is also known for its cloister «delocalised» in the 19th century, whose capitals were reused on the cloister of the Massey Garden in Tarbes.
