About the location

Château de Pugny
Château de Pugny, 79320 Moncoutant-sur-Sèvre

Today in ruins, the castle of Pugny has known its hours of glory.
The oldest records of the existence of the castle of Pugny date back to the thirteenth century. At the very beginning the castle had to consist of a large building originally made of wood, then masonry. It was only at the end of the 15th century that the castle of Pugny became a real fortress, by royal authorization.
The castle was transformed into a Renaissance style castle. This jewel will last until the Revolution. In 1792, the castle was set on fire by the National Guards of Pouzauges, Chataigneraie and Fontenay. The Castle is then sold with the lands as national property.
In the XIXth and XXth centuries the castle is transformed into a farm.
