In last years of the XIXth century, the municipality of Strasbourg decides on the realisation of the Port(Bearing) of the Rhine which marks the opening of the city on its river. Established in direct communication with the Rhine, without lock, it becomes a reality by the drilling, between 1898 and 1900, of ponds of Business(Trade) and of Industry. He is moreover connected(bound) with the train line Strasbourg-Kehl and receives a big(great) station of sorting. To realise these new infrastructures, the city draws inspiration from the model of Mannheim where co-exist a port(bearing) of business(trade) and an industrial port(bearing). Implemented arrangement(development) aims at gathering(combining) around the pond of Business(Trade) warehouses and construction sites(works) of coal, the pond of Industry to fix the companies of production. The activity(occupation) of the large platforms of the Port(Bearing) of the Rhine is spread up to the World War I and will be supplemented by new industrial plants after return in France. On the banks of the pond of Business(Trade), the city makes build warehouses serving mainly to store cereals, which it exploits(runs) directly or which it rents(praises). Industry also becomes established there in the form of powerful flour mills. The pond of Industry sees becoming established on its banks of the industrial establishments
