Guided tour of the caves of Maxange
The Caves of Maxange, in the valley of the Dordogne are surprising in more than a title.
From part their history(story) already, which is not banal. In 1984, Angel Caballero decides to resume(take back) the family company, a career(quarry) of stone opened by his(her) father Maximilian in 1960 on the municipality of the Bush of Cadouin. 16 years later, in 2000, Angel sees a strange weakness(fault) in the cliff. He still does not know him but this weakness(fault) is going to change the life and that of its family.
After a few weeks of hesitation, he(it) decides to seep through by this mysterious hole. After some metres only of difficult progress, an incredible gallery offers itself to the eyes. They are on August 15th, 2000.
Also all over their exceptional diversity in concrétionnement.
Stalactites, stalagmites, numerous panels(signs) of aragonite recovering whole walls, fistulous of an extreme sharpness(delicacy) are there.
But what is blindingly obvious, it is this unique(only) abundance of "eccentric" said rare crystallisations, which challenge literally laws of gravity. Habitually observed by small quantities, it are contemplated here by thousands on about 90 metres.
After a long reflexion, Angel decides to make every effort to return this accessible(approachable) unique(only) place to all. But to transform a career(quarry) into home site to the public is not thing well-off(easy). It will be needed about 2 working years to do outsides up and to return the accessible(approachable) inside.
In 2009, a new gallery is open to visit but everything was still not explored and we want to think that new discoveries are to come.
In 2013, the State decides to list(classify) Maxange for its geological and picturesque character and the guide Michelin attributed(awarded) it two stars.
Today, Maxange is a site which delights small and big(great) and that is recognised as one of more beautiful cave with concretion of France.
