The church was built because of the extension of the city of Colmar under the IIth Reich. The most important district will be the one of San José located on the West, working-class district of the city. Joseph being the boss of the workers, the church San José is therefore built there in 1900 by the architect Winckler in very fashionable neogothic style in the empire of Guillaume II. The church is always today the heart of a very living district: every Saturday morning, the place(square) of the market San José is very busy by colmariens on the lookout for biological products.
Of plan in Latin cross, the church San José de Colmar in sandstone pink and coated is monumental; it is of neogothic style the XXth century. She(It) possesses a tower - bell tower, a central nave in six spans, two shoulders and a transept. The bedhead counts three cut pieces and, joined with this one, two sacristies, in the North and in the South. Three doors are drilled on the Western, north and south facades. The tower - bell tower of the western side is crowned with gâbles and ends in a polygonal adorned arrow of let us dawdle. The collateral are drilled of bays(berries) in neogothic remplage letting through light copiously. The whole building is supported by foothills. The high altar in white sandstone and pink marble is realised by Theophile Klem.
