Les Cinémas du Grütli
Patricio Guzmán, who passed away in September 2026, leaves behind one of the most important bodies of documentary work of our time. Les Cinémas du Grütli pay tribute to him on Sunday, November 8, with a special screening of his monumental work, The Battle of Chile , shown in its entirety.
Between 1972 and 1973, Guzmán and his crew filmed the final months of Salvador Allende’s government at close range. In the streets, factories, assemblies and demonstrations, his camera captured a country in the midst of political ferment, as well as the rising tensions that would lead to the military coup of September 11, 1973. After Guzmán was arrested and forced into exile, the footage was smuggled out of Chile. It would give rise to three films made between 1972 and 1979: The Battle of Chile – Part I: The Insurrection of the Bourgeoisie, Part II: The Coup d’État, Part III: Popular Power.
Rarely has cinema captured History with such intensity, at the very moment it was unfolding. But The Battle of Chile is more than an exceptional record of the Popular Unity experience and its destruction: it is a towering work of cinema, filled with the faces, voices and gestures of men and women who still believe they can transform their country.
All of Patricio Guzmán’s later work would grow out of these images and this original wound. For more than fifty years, he never stopped questioning his country’s memory and fighting, through cinema, against forgetting.
Full price: CHF 10.– per film. Each of the three films can be seen on its own.

Tarif plein: CHF 10.–/ film. Les trois films peuvent être découverts indépendamment.
