As part of the temporary exhibition ‘Afrosonica - Soundscapes’, a series of films for adults, children and teenagers will be screened between May and December, offering a different perspective on the themes explored in the exhibition.
In collaboration with the Palestine: Filmer c'est exister film festival, which will take place from 26 to 30 November 2025, ‘A Magical Substance Flows Into Me’ by Jumana Manna will be screened at the Théâtre Pitoëff on Sunday 30 November.
A Magical Substance Flows Into Me by Jumana Manna, 68 min, 2016, Palestine, Germany, Great Britain.
Inspired by the work of German-Jewish ethnomusicologist Robert Lachmann, exiled in Palestine in the 1930s, director Jumana Manna revisits a little-known sound archive and reactivates it in the present. She meets musicians from various communities living in historic Palestine today: Kurdish families, Bedouins, Moroccan and Yemeni Jews, Samaritans, Palestinians and Coptic Christians.
In the intimacy of living rooms or kitchens, instruments resonate, songs rise up, and stories weave a collective memory made up of fragile transmissions, resistance and reinventions. A vibrant reflection on cultural diversity and the challenges of preserving it.

Screenings are free and without registration, subject to availability of seats in the auditorium.

Dans le cadre de l’exposition temporaire « Afrosonica - Paysages sonores », un cycle de films pour adultes, enfants et adolescents vous est proposé entre le mois de mai et le mois de décembre afin de pouvoir approcher autrement les thématiques abordées par l’exposition.
En collaboration avec les rencontres cinématographiques Palestine : Filmer c'est exister, qui se tiennent du 26 au 30 novembre 2025, « A Magical Substance Flows Into Me » de Jumana Manna est projeté au Théâtre Pitoëff le dimanche 30 novembre.

S’inspirant du travail de l’ethnomusicologue juif allemand Robert Lachmann, exilé en Palestine dans les années 1930, la réalisatrice Jumana Manna revisite une archive sonore méconnue et la réactive dans le présent. Elle part à la rencontre de musicien·ne·s issu·e·s de diverses communautés vivant aujourd’hui dans la Palestine historique: familles kurdes, bédouines, juives marocaines et yéménites, samaritaines, palestiniennes, chrétiennes coptes.
Dans l’intimité des salons ou des cuisines, les instruments résonnent, les chants s’élèvent, et les récits tissent une mémoire collective faite de transmissions fragiles, de résistances et de réinventions. Une réflexion vibrante sur la diversité culturelle et les enjeux de sa préservation.
La séance sera suivie d'une rencontre entre Madeleine Leclair, conservatrice au MEG, et Jumana Manna, réalisatrice du film.
