Toast from Mamuka Japharidze
This performance transcends the boundaries of time, linking past and present, and tackles the theme of immortality, symbolised by Dionysus known as the god of wine, spiritual liberation, and patron saint of viticulture and oenology. The first part takes the form of a banquet, providing a space for philosophical reflection on the very nature of life. An arrangement of mundane objects, including translucent glassware, assorted plants and bouquets of flowers, as well as wine and food, are thoughtfully placed by the artist. Using the cyanotype technique, Mamuka Japharidze then takes photographs of the installation, addressing the notion of the passage of time and its imprints. This performance is in close dialogue with the objects and paintings in the MAH collection, including amphorae and still lifes.
This performance takes place as part of the MAH Résidence with guest curator Anissa Touati.
