Astronomy lecture by Georges Meynet, followed, weather permitting, by observations using ancient and contemporary instruments.

After a brief historical introduction describing some of the different interpretations of the Milky Way over the centuries, the presentation will focus on explaining some aspects of ongoing research to better understand its dynamics, its central black hole, its origin, its age, and its evolution. The Milky Way will then be compared to other galaxies, particularly those recently detected in the distant universe by the James Webb Space Telescope.

Après une brève introduction historique décrivant quelques-unes des différentes interprétations de la Voie Lactée au cours des siècles, l’exposé s’attachera à expliquer quelques aspects des recherches en cours pour mieux comprendre sa dynamique, son trou noir central, son origine, son âge, son évolution. La Voie lactée sera ensuite comparée aux autres galaxies notamment à celles détectées récemment dans l’Univers très lointain par le James Webb Space Telescope.
