Le Journal d’une femme de chambre - Radu Jude

Film by Radu Jude (2026) - 1h34
Starring Ana Dumitrașcu, Marie Rivière, Louen Bouteiller, Arnaud Baudoin
Gianina, a young Romanian woman, works as a housemaid in a bourgeois family in Bordeaux. In the evenings, she rehearses with an amateur theater troupe for the role of a maid in an adaptation of Octave Mirbeau's Diary of a Chambermaid. In her daily life, she takes care of Louen, her employers' son, while her own daughter grows up far away in Romania. The maternal absence deepens into a wound, but as Christmas approaches, a promise of reunion emerges.
The screening will be followed by a lecture by Lucie Garçon, editor, lecturer, and cinema speaker.
Organized by AFCAE and CICAE (International Confederation of Art and Experimental Cinemas)
in partnership with Europa Cinemas and De la suite dans les images.
As part of the 11th European Art and Experimental Cinema Day.
