Les Belles Sorties - Beethoven and Schumann - Emmerin
BEETHOVEN Symphony 4
SCHUMANN Symphony No. 1 "Le Printemps"
In 1806, Beethoven spent time in the summer residence of his patron, Prince Lichnowsky. There he met Count Franz of Oppersdorff, who maintained a small orchestra. A long-time admirer, the latter commissioned a symphony from Beethoven in the spirit of Haydn. The result is the wonderfully light and deep Fourth Symphony. The same light can be found in Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, known as Spring. Within a few days, the German composer worked on a vast score. Galvanized by his happy union with Clara, he imagines a bounding and mischievous symphony, which will be conducted here by the conductor Swann van Rechem, 1st Prize of the Besançon International Competition 2023 where he was also elected «coup de coeur du Public» and «The orchestra’s favourite piece». The opportunity for the metropolitan public to discover this young prodigy from Lille, trained in particular at the Conservatories of Tourcoing and Lille.
