In July 1956, Egypt found itself at the center of the international scene after the nationalization of the Suez Canal Company. The challenge to the European powers and their defeat in October make the triumph of Nasser in Egypt and beyond the borders. Arab opinion is inflamed for this new hero who carries high the colors of revenge on the West, Arabism and non-alignment. Egypt also represents a specific development model that the newly independent countries want to replicate.
