Für viele Orleaner ist der Name Isaac Jogues einfach der einer Straße. Der nordamerikanische Kontinent, insbesondere die kanadischen Provinzen Quebec und Ontario oder der Staat New York, bewahrten jedoch die Erinnerung an den Jesuiten von Orleans, der im Sommer 1636 im Hafen von Quebec an Land ging. Von dort ging er für eine Mission der Evangelisierung unter den heulenden Stämmen aus, erlebte das Martyrium in den Händen der Mohawk und wurde von der katholischen Kirche heiliggesprochen. Der von Gérard Hocmard vorgeschlagene Vortrag möchte seinen Weg zurückverfolgen und ihm beim Aufstieg vom Sankt-Lorenz-Strom und seinem Tod in der Region Lake George in den Adirondacks nördlich von New York folgen.

For many Orléanais, the name Isaac Jogues is simply that of a street. However, the North American continent, and in particular the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario or the state of New York, keep the memory of the Orléan Jesuit who landed at the port of Quebec one day in the summer of 1636. He left there for a mission of evangelization among the Huron tribes, he knew martyrdom at the hands of the Mohawks and was declared a saint by the Catholic Church. The conference proposed by Gérard Hocmard aims to retrace his journey and follow him in his ascent of the St Lawrence and his death in the region of Lake George, in the Adirondacks, north of New York.

Per molti orleani, il nome di Isaac Jogues è semplicemente quello di una strada. Tuttavia, il continente nordamericano, e in particolare le province canadesi del Québec e dell'Ontario o lo stato di New York, conservano il ricordo del gesuita irlandese che sbarcò nel porto di Québec un giorno dell'estate 1636. Partito da lì per una missione di evangelizzazione presso le tribù huroni, conobbe il martirio per mano dei mohawk ed è stato dichiarato santo dalla Chiesa cattolica. La conferenza proposta da Gérard Hocmard si propone di ripercorrere il suo percorso e di seguirlo nella sua risalita del San Lorenzo e nella sua morte nella regione del lago George, negli Adirondacks, a nord di New York.

Pour de nombreux Orléanais, le nom d'Isaac Jogues est simplement celui d'une rue. Cependant le continent nord-américain, et en particulier les provinces canadiennes du Québec et de l’Ontario ou l’état de New York, gardent le souvenir du jésuite orléanais qui débarqua au port de Québec un jour de l’été 1636. Parti de là pour une mission d‘évangélisation auprès des tribus huronnes, il connut le martyre aux mains des Mohawks et a été déclaré saint par l’Église catholique.
La conférence proposée par Gérard Hocmard se propose de retracer son parcours et de le suivre dans sa remontée du Saint-Laurent et sa mort dans la région du lac George, dans les Adirondacks, au nord de New York.

Salió de allí para una misión de evangelización con las tribus huronas, conoció el martirio en manos de los mohawk y fue declarado santo por la Iglesia católica.
