Il donjon, alzando (la compilazione) del suo 35 metri al di sopra dei fossi (gli spazi vuoti(i divari)) che lo circondano è l'unico il vestigio (ovvio) ancora visibile(evidente) di antico castello (vecchio) di Rouen costruito da Philippe Augustus a partire dal 1204\. È nel pianterreno che Jeanne d'Arc, chiusa nel castello, è stata messa alla presenza degli strumenti di tortura.
