Creature of instinct, Daniel Castan works painting with tools that correspond to his personality: his knives slice in the sharp and alkyd oil, leaving no room for doubt. Under his hands the lights spring from the canvas, the lines of perspective are born from the clash between the flat planes and the details appear, carved in the thickness of the material. Fascinated by the urban world, he first works from his own travel photographs in New York and Hong Kong. He gradually abandons his clichés. His memories, the emotions felt in the chaos of the city are so anchored in him that they become a separate language, which does not bother with geographical references and realities.
Propelled ten years ago by Carré d'Artistes, the renowned artist Daniel Castan returns to Lille for an exceptional opening day on Saturday 16 November from 10am to 7pm

Créature d'instinct, Daniel Castan travaille la peinture avec des outils qui correspondent à sa personnalité : ses couteaux tranchent dans le vif et l'huile alkyde, ne laissant pas la place au doute. Sous ses mains les lumières jaillissent de la toile, les lignes de perspective naissent du choc entre les aplats et les détails apparaissent, sculptés dans l'épaisseur de la matière. Fasciné par le monde urbain, il travaille d'abord d'après ses propres photographies de voyages à New York et à Hong Kong. Il délaisse progressivement ses clichés. Ses souvenirs, les émotions ressenties dans le chaos de la ville sont si ancrés en lui qu'ils deviennent un langage à part, qui ne s'embarrasse pas des références et des réalités géographiques.
Propulsé il y a dix ans par Carré d'Artistes, l'artiste renommé Daniel Castan revient à Lille pour une journée de vernissage exceptionnelle le samedi 16 novembre de 10h à 19h

Een instinctief wezen, Daniel Castan werkt schilderen met gereedschap dat overeenkomt met zijn persoonlijkheid: Zijn messen snijden in de scherpe en alkyd olie, waardoor er geen ruimte voor twijfel. Onder zijn handen springen de lichten van het canvas, de lijnen van perspectief ontstaan uit de botsing tussen de platte vlakken en de details verschijnen, gesneden in de dikte van het materiaal. Gefascineerd door de stedelijke wereld, werkt hij eerst vanuit zijn eigen reisfoto's in New York en Hong Kong. Hij laat geleidelijk zijn clichés achter. Zijn herinneringen, de emoties die voelden in de chaos van de stad zijn zo verankerd in hem dat ze een aparte taal worden, die zich niet bekommert om geografische referenties en realiteiten.
De beroemde kunstenaar Daniel Castan, die tien jaar geleden werd voortgestuwd door Carré d'Artistes, keert op zaterdag 16 november van 10:00 tot 19:00 terug naar Lille voor een uitzonderlijke openingsdag
