Kashi—one of the ancient names for Benares, or Varanasi—evokes the “luminous” city, a center of knowledge, spirituality, and devotion.
On the banks of the Ganges, this sacred city in northern India has inspired artists, poets, musicians, and dancers for centuries, following in the footsteps of Shiva, the symbolic guardian of this land of pilgrimage. The Banarasi tradition is expressed here through kathak, a classical dance in which rhythmic virtuosity, improvisation, storytelling, and devotion intertwine.
Conceived by Gauri Priscilla Brülhart to celebrate twenty years of her career, this production brings together artists trained by masters of the musical and choreographic traditions of Benares.
A sensitive and luminous journey through music, dance, shared experience, and inner reflection.

Kashi - l’un des noms anciens de Bénarès, ou Varanasi - évoque la ville « lumineuse», haut lieu de connaissance, de spiritualité et de ferveur.
Sur les rives du Gange, cette cité sacrée du nord de l’Inde inspire depuis des siècles artistes, poètes, musicien·nes et danseur·ses, dans le sillage de Shiva, gardien symbolique de cette terre de pèlerinage. La tradition banarasi s’y déploie à travers le kathak, danse classique où virtuosité rythmique, improvisation, narration et dévotion se répondent.
Imaginée par Gauri Priscilla Brülhart pour célébrer vingt années de carrière, cette création réunit des artistes formé·es auprès de maîtres de la tradition musicale et chorégraphique de Bénarès.
Un voyage sensible et lumineux, entre musique, danse, partage et intériorité.
