The castle of Bourbon-l'Archambault, emblematic monument of the department of Allier, is a powerful marker of the local history, the cultural identity and the collective memory of the Bourbonnais. The monument has shaped the landscape and its silhouette has established itself as one of the symbols of the territory.
However, it remains today largely unknown, or rather misunderstood, due to the lack of archaeological study, the most recent dating back to 1945. In 2024, the depositary association of the site launched a long-term research program with archaeologists, who began to study the monument with, for the first time, modern prospecting methods, including photogrammetry.
