On the music front
After more than a decade in New York, and fueled by the success of Parquet Courts, of which he was frontman, Savage left the city and the USA, marking his exit with a mature masterpiece and a worthy corollary to his first solo adventure, "Thawing Dawn". In 2023, the singular irreverence of "Several Songs about Fire" demonstrates Savage's exceptional gifts as a lyricist and observer. Oscillating between meditative indie rock trip and melancholy-tinged folk pop, served up by consistently impeccable production, the songwriter questions questions of wealth and poverty, of self and other, sometimes telling and sometimes disappearing, the better to leave listeners to their own emotional intimacy.
