Seit den 1990er Jahren fotografiert die Künstlerin Aglaia Konrad urbane Prozesse in verschiedenen Metropolen. Wie eine Archäologin vertieft sie sich in die Bedeutung der verschiedenen Schichten, aus denen die Stadt besteht, von der Wahl der Materialien bis zur Ideologie, die ihr zugrunde liegt. Die Installation dreht sich um ihre neue Serie, die der Boekentoren in Gent gewidmet ist. Der Titel, Umbau, bedeutet auf Deutsch Verwandlung, Veränderung, bezieht sich sowohl auf die jüngste Renovierung dieses emblematischen Gebäudes als auch auf den Schaffensprozess des Künstlers: vom Bau bis zum Rückbau und umgekehrt. Umbau lädt das Publikum ein, einen neuen Blick auf die (Geschichte der) Architektur zu werfen.
B.T. wie Boekentoren, der Buchturm. Aglaia Konrad wurde 2021 von der Universität Gent eingeladen, die Boekentoren nach deren Wiedereröffnung zu erkunden. Das ikonische Gebäude von Henri Van de Velde, dem Inbegriff des Modernismus in Belgien, wurde von den Architekten Robbrecht und Daem in Zusammenarbeit mit BARO, SumProject und Barbara Van der Wee Architects restauriert. Aglaia Konrad hat sich entschieden, das Gebäude auf einzigartige Weise zu dokumentieren. Zum ersten Mal in ihrer Karriere verwendet sie hier Filter einer unverzichtbaren digitalen Fotosoftware, um die Klarheit der Linien dieser bemerkenswerten Architektur zu betonen.
Aglaia Konrad lebt und arbeitet in Brüssel. Sie studierte und war anschließend Professorin an der Jan-van-Eyck-Akademie, Maastricht und lehrte an der LUCA School of Arts, Brüssel. Seine Werke wurden in vielen Ländern ausgestellt, darunter im Museum M in Leuven, dem Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Le Bal in Paris und der documenta X in Kassel.
Diese Serie ist gerade in die Kollektionen des Frac Grand Large aufgenommen worden und wird zum ersten Mal in der Region gezeigt.

Since the 1990s, the artist Aglaia Konrad has been photographing urban processes in various metropolises. Like an archaeologist, she immerses herself in the meaning of the various layers that make up the city, from the choice of materials to the ideology that underlies it. The installation revolves around his new series dedicated to the Boekentoren in Ghent. The title, Umbau, which in German means transformation, change, refers both to the recent renovation of this iconic building and to the artist’s creative process: from construction to deconstruction and vice versa. Umbau invites the public to take a fresh look at (the history of) architecture.
B.T. like Boekentoren, the tower of books. Aglaia Konrad was invited in 2021 by the University of Ghent to explore the Boekentoren, following its reopening. The emblematic building of Henri Van de Velde, a jewel of modernism in Belgium has been restored by the architects Robbrecht and Daem in collaboration with BARO, SumProject and Barbara Van der Wee architects. Aglaia Konrad decided to document the building in a unique way. For the first time in her career, she uses here filters from an essential digital photography software to accentuate the purity of the lines of this remarkable architecture.
Aglaia Konrad lives and works in Brussels. She studied and then was a professor at the Academy Jan Van Eyck, Maastricht and teaches at the LUCA School of Arts, Brussels. His work has been exhibited in many countries, including Museum M, Leuven, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Le Bal in Paris, and documenta X, Kassel.
This series has just entered the collections of the Frac Grand Large and will be presented for the first time in a region.

Dagli anni '90, l'artista Aglaia Konrad fotografa i processi urbani in varie metropoli. Come un'archeologa, si immerge nel significato dei vari strati di cui è costituita la città, dalla scelta dei materiali fino all'ideologia che lo sottende. L'installazione si articola attorno alla sua nuova serie dedicata al Boekentoren di Gand. Il titolo, Umbau, che in tedesco significa trasformazione, cambiamento, rimanda sia alla recente ristrutturazione di questo edificio emblematico che al processo creativo dell'artista: dalla costruzione alla decostruzione e viceversa. Umbau invita il pubblico a dare un nuovo sguardo alla (storia dell') architettura.
BT come Boekentoren, la torre dei libri. Aglaia Konrad è stata invitata nel 2021 dall'Università di Gand ad esplorare il Boekentoren, in seguito alla riapertura della stessa. L'edificio emblematico di Henri Van de Velde, fiore all'occhiello del modernismo in Belgio, è stato infatti restaurato dagli architetti Robbrecht e Daem in collaborazione con gli architetti BARO, SumProject e Barbara Van der Wee. Aglaia Konrad ha deciso di documentare l'edificio in un modo singolare. Per la prima volta nella sua carriera, utilizza i filtri di un software di fotografia digitale per accentuare la purezza delle linee di questa straordinaria architettura.
Aglaia Konrad vive e lavora a Bruxelles. Ha studiato e successivamente è stata professoressa presso l'accademia Jan Van Eyck, Maastricht e insegna alla LUCA School of Arts, Bruxelles. Le sue opere sono state esposte in molti paesi, tra cui il Museum M di Lovanio, lo Stedelijk Museum di Amsterdam, Le Bal a Parigi e la documenta X di Kassel.

Depuis les années 1990, l'artiste Aglaia Konrad photographie les processus urbains dans diverses métropoles. Telle une archéologue, elle se plonge dans la signification des diverses couches dont est constituée la ville, depuis le choix des matériaux jusqu’à l’idéologie qui le sous-tend. L’installation s’articule autour de sa nouvelle série dédiée à la Boekentoren à Gand. Le titre, Umbau, qui en allemand signifie transformation, changement, renvoie à la fois à la rénovation récente de cet immeuble emblématique et au processus de création de l’artiste : de la construction à la déconstruction et vice-versa. Como una arqueóloga, se sumerge en el significado de las diversas capas que componen la ciudad, desde la elección de los materiales hasta la ideología subyacente. La instalación gira en torno a su nueva serie dedicada al Boekentoren de Gante.
