Yumi Yamada a exposé dans le métro de Tokyo. En 2025, Elle est venue aux Rencontres de la photographie et a eu un coup de cœur pour Arles et l’Atelier du Refuge. Le coup de cœur est réciproque au vu de ses magnifiques photographies. Yumi Yamada présente une série sur laquelle elle travaille depuis 2024.
Yumi Yamada crée des œuvres associant figures humaines et végétaux, inspirées par le sentiment physique d'une fragilité partagée entre eux. Son processus oscille entre le hasard et le contrôle : elle photographie sans regarder dans le viseur tout en créant des compositions soigneusement structurées. À travers ses autoportraits, elle explore l'image qu'elle a d'elle-même.
À propos de l'artiste : Née en 1998 à Kanagawa, au Japon. Diplômée du département de psychologie clinique en mars 2023. À travers sa pratique photographique, elle explore la déconstruction et la reconstruction de l'identité et de l'image de soi. Ses principales expositions incluent les expositions collectives "The Tremor of plurality" (Amerikabashi Gallery, Tokyo, 2025) et "PUSH FOR CREATION" (Yokohama, Japon, 2023).
Yumi Yamada has previously exhibited her work in the Tokyo Metro. In 2025, she visited the Rencontres d'Arles and fell in love with the city and the Atelier du Refuge. The feeling was mutual upon seeing her magnificent photographs. Yumi Yamada presents a series she has been working on since 2024.

Yumi Yamada creates works combining human figures and plants, inspired by a physical sense of shared fragility between them. Her process moves between chance and control: she photographs without looking through the viewfinder while also creating carefully structured compositions. Through her self-portraiture, she explores her own self-image.
Artist Profile : Born in 1998 in Kanagawa, Japan. Graduated from the Department of Clinical Psychology in March 2023. Through her photographic practice, she explores the deconstruction and reconstruction of identity and self-image.
