Oleksandr Glyadyelov has been photographing Ukraine for forty years. His work crosses the end of the Soviet world, independence, the upheavals of the 1990s, the mobilizations of 2004 and Maidan in 2013, then the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine that has marked the country since 2014.
Beyond the events, his images tell of a society confronted with history: faces, bodies, gestures, places, but also fragilities and solidarities. Based on closeness and attention to beings, his photography acquires a strength of testimony as much as an archival value. "And I live..." evokes what persists when everything falters: to live, to find each other, to preserve the links, to continue living.
The exhibition, presented at the Mucem, thus composes a sensitive history of contemporary Ukraine and questions our ability to form a society in times of hardship. She brings together about fifty of her photographs, the oldest dating from 1990.
The exhibition has been awarded the Bicentennial of Photography label by the Ministry of Culture and is part of the official program for the Bicentennial from September 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027.

Since the 1990s, his work focuses on social margins, childhood, vulnerabilities and conflict situations. Since 1997, he has collaborated with Médecins Sans Frontières and practiced in many countries, while continuing his long-term work in Ukraine.
Vive e lavora a Kiev.

Oleksandr Glyadyelov photographie l’Ukraine depuis quarante ans.
