Beneath the apparent familiarity of The Four Seasons lies a far vaster continent of Vivaldi’s creation. The program of this concert offers a few glimpses of it, revealing the richness of an imagination that far exceeds the conditioned image of Vivaldi.
The concerti of Opus 8, which include Il Piacere and La Tempesta di Mare, combine instrumental virtuosity with an almost theatrical evocative power: swirling seas, sensual pleasures, dramatic energy. To this exuberant expressiveness responds the architectural purity of the trio sonatas of Opus 1, where the contrapuntal rigor inherited from Corelli opens onto a new melodic freedom. Already one perceives the art of dialogue, the balance between scholarly science and inventive impulse that would mark Vivaldi’s entire œuvre.
Finally, the cello concerto—an instrument of which he was one of the earliest great champions—illustrates his ability to explore new expressive voices: lines of ardent eloquence, inner tensions transposed into a discourse of dramatic intensity. Thus emerges a fresco where architecture and theatricality, rigor and brilliance, science and imagination intersect.
The listener is invited to traverse these contrasting territories, to savor the inventiveness of a composer who, more than any other, knew how to unite fervor, audacity, and sonic delight.

Sous l’apparente familiarité des Quatre Saisons se cache un continent bien plus vaste de la création vivaldienne. Le programme de ce concert en propose quelques éclats, révélant la richesse d’un imaginaire qui dépasse largement l’image conditionnée de Vivaldi.
Les concerti de l’opus 8, dont font partie Il Piacere et La Tempesta di Mare, associent la virtuosité instrumentale à une puissance évocatrice quasi théâtrale : tourbillons marins, plaisirs sensuels, énergie dramatique. À cette expressivité foisonnante répond la pureté architecturale des sonates en trio de l’opus 1, où la rigueur contrapuntique héritée de Corelli s’ouvre à une liberté mélodique nouvelle. On y perçoit déjà l’art du dialogue, l’équilibre entre la science savante et l’élan inventif qui marqueront toute l’œuvre de Vivaldi.
Enfin, le concerto pour violoncelle, instrument dont il fut l’un des premiers grands promoteurs, illustre sa capacité à explorer de nouvelles voix expressives : lignes d’une éloquence ardente, tensions intérieures transposées dans un discours d’une intensité dramatique. Ainsi se dessine une fresque où se croisent architecture et théâtralité, rigueur et éclat, science et imaginaire.
