To celebrate Boris Charmatz’s return to La Bâtie, the Festival and Cinéma Bio present a special screening of dance films by the choreographer, featuring Les Disparates (César Vayssié, 1999) and Danse gâchée dans l’herbe (Ruined Dance in the Grass, César Vayssié & Boris Charmatz, 2023).
Following the screening, Boris Charmatz will join Anne Davier and the audience for a post-film discussion over brunch — a unique opportunity to explore (or rediscover) the choreographer’s work and its evolution.
In 1994, Les Disparates — the second piece by the duo Boris Charmatz and Dimitri Chamblas — premiered at the Nouvelles Scènes festival in Dijon. By 1999, through the lens of César Vayssié, Les Disparates became neither a dance video, nor a dance film, nor a musical, but an experimental and intuitive short film in its own right.
Danse gâchée dans l’herbe (Ruined Dance in the Grass) is a solo piece based on choreographic material from Levée des conflits, a 2010 work by Boris Charmatz.
"Brushwood. Marion Barbeau deserves the golden lights of the grandest opera houses. And yet, she agreed to throw herself into this solo with us, crafted in haste from the movement material of Levée des conflits, on a wasteland near the Centre Pompidou-Metz.
A massive colony of beetles attacked us as night fell — but she kept dancing. In her ears, the continuous arpeggios of Amandine Beyer’s violin. We’ll work more together in the future, but our first project is this film, shot on a June night — this dance ruined in the grass."

Pour célébrer le retour de Boris Charmatz à La Bâtie, le Festival et le Cinéma Bio présentent un programme de films de danse du chorégraphe comprenant Les Disparates (César Vayssié, 1999) et Danse gâchée dans l’herbe (César Vayssié et Boris Charmatz, 2023). À la suite de la projection, Boris Charmatz dialoguera avec Anne Davier et le public autour d’un brunch. L’occasion de découvrir ou de redécouvrir le travail du chorégraphe ainsi que son évolution.
En 1994, lors du festival Nouvelles Scènes, à Dijon, était créée Les Disparates, deuxième pièce du duo composé de Boris Charmatz et Dimitri Chamblas. En 1999, devant la caméra de César Vayssié, Les Disparates ne devenait pas une « vidéodanse », ni même un film de danse ou une comédie musicale, mais un court métrage, empirique et intuitif.
Danse gâchée dans l’herbe est un solo créé d’après les matériaux chorégraphiques de Levée des conflits, une pièce de Boris Charmatz de 2010.
« Broussailles. Marion Barbeau mérite les ors des plus grands opéras. Elle accepte de se jeter avec nous dans un solo travaillé à l’arraché, à partir des matériaux de ma pièce Levée des conflits, sur un terrain vague au Centre Pompidou-Metz. Il y a une colonie immense de hannetons qui viennent nous attaquer à la nuit tombée, mais elle danse quand même. Dans ses oreilles, les arpèges ininterrompus du violon d’Amandine Beyer : on retravaillera ensemble plus tard, mais notre premier projet ensemble est ce film tourné une nuit de juin, cette danse gâchée dans l’herbe. » Boris Charmatz
