Closing of the exhibition "The deadly beauty of cinemas" & projection of "La Saga du Plaza"
Last days to discover Simon Edelstein’s photographs on every floor of the Mont-Blanc Center, near Cornavin train station. Only for this day, the movie La Saga du Plaza (25 min) will be shown.

This Saturday afternoon it will be possible to visit the magnificient exhibition of Simon Edelstein but also to watch a 25 minutes movie by Stephane Riethauser at 2nd floor. The director retraces, in his unique and funny way, the history of the Plaza by mixing magnificent excerpts from documentaries with legendary film scenes. (Please beware that photographs are forbidden during the the screening). The film will be projected continuosly between 2pm and 6pm. Free entrance to exhibiton and to the movie.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Since the early 2000s, Simon Edelstein has undertaken a photographic exploration of the disappearance of old movie theaters, a project that has earned recognition through various prestigious publications. This long-term endeavor began with a pivotal moment when the Geneva-based photographer and filmmaker, standing before the ruins of former cinemas in the United States, felt the imminent loss of an entire cultural universe.
Like an archaeologist, he began to traverse the outskirts of cities across the globe—from the USA to India, Morocco to Cuba—capturing the striking contrasts between grandeur and neglect, between the golden age of movie theaters and their sometimes whimsical repurposing. This global journey through abandoned cinemas reveals majestic facades crumbling into oblivion, yet it goes beyond mere nostalgia, awakening a broader awareness of this architectural heritage.

Ce samedi après-midi de finissage permettra au public de visiter l'exposition de Simon Edelstein, mais aussi de voir un moyen-métragé signé par Stephane Riethauser au deuxième étage. Le réalisateur retrace, à sa façon unique et drôle, l'histoire du Plaza en mélangeant des magnifiques extraits de documentaires à des scènes mythiques de film. (La prise de photo durant la projection est strictement interdite). La projection aura lieu en continu de 14h à 18h. L'accès est gratuit autant à l'exposition qu'à la projection.
A PROPOS DE L'EXPOSITION:
Figure incontournable du cinéma des années 70, Simon Edelstein initie au début des années 2000 un travail photographique remarquable. En effet l'artiste comprend, devant les ruines des anciens palais du cinéma aux Etats-Unis, qu’une époque entière est en train de disparaître. Ainsi il commence à parcourir le monde pour immortaliser ces façades majestueuses qui se décomposent ou qui se reconvertissent.
L'exposition réveille la prise de conscience de ce patrimoine architectural et évoque le triste sort auquel le cinéma Le Plaza de Genève a échappé car le cinéma, actuellement en travaux, revivra pour devenir le coeur d'un nouveau hub culturel.
