Highlights of Animatou’s 20th anniversary
In addition to the competitive screenings, we wanted to offer a rich and diverse programme as a tribute to our history and to those who have helped bring this project to life. Here’s an overview of what’s in store for this year.
20 years of festivities
We’ll be paying tribute to the organisations and personalities from Geneva’s alternative scene who contributed to bringing Animatou to life, such as the self-managed space l’Écurie and Pré en Bulle, our local neighbourhood association in the Grottes area. Participatory events in public spaces and artist-run venues will be organised to celebrate the pioneering spirit of the festival, the first in French-speaking Switzerland to dedicate a full programme exclusively to animated shorts.
Retrospective of our favourite short films
A selection of the most significant films in Animatou’s history will provide a space to reflect on the evolution of animated cinema. This will be an opportunity to meet the directors and creators who have left their mark over the last two decades.
Promoting animation in Switzerland
A meeting and various screenings will be organised in collaboration with key players and institutions in the local animation world, including animation schools and institutes of Higher Education. We will be inviting Swiss producers, directors and artists for them to share their experience and vision for the future of animation.
Carte blanche for the Clermont-Ferrand Festival (FR)
Animatou is grateful to the entities which have contributed to its existence, among which the Clermont-Ferrand short film festival features highly. A special carte blanche programme will provide the Geneva public a chance to discover an exclusive selection of animated shorts from one of the most influential events in the world of short film cinema.

Les grandes lignes du 20e anniversaire d’Animatou
À l’occasion de notre 20e anniversaire, en plus de nos programmes compétitifs, nous avons souhaité offrir une programmation riche et diversifiée, en hommage à notre parcours et à celles et ceux qui ont contribué à faire vivre ce projet. Voici un aperçu de ce qui vous attend cette année.
Collaborations festives « 20 ans »
Nous rendrons hommage aux entités et personnalités du monde alternatif genevois, telles que l’association de quartier des Grottes Pré en Bulle ou l’Écurie, qui ont permis à Animatou de voir le jour. Des événements participatifs sur l’espace public et dans des lieux autogérés seront organisés pour célébrer l’esprit pionnier du festival, le premier à dédier sa programmation au court métrage animé en Suisse romande.
Rétrospective des courts-métrages « coups de cœur »
Un moment de partage et de réflexion autour de l’évolution du cinéma d’animation, avec une sélection des films les plus marquants de l’histoire d’Animatou. Ce sera l’occasion de rencontrer des réalisateurices et créateurices qui ont marqué ces deux décennies.
Valorisation de l’animation en Suisse
Nous organiserons une rencontre et des projections en collaboration avec des institutions et des acteurs du secteur, ainsi que des Hautes écoles. Nous inviterons producteurices, réalisateurices et artistes suisses à partager leur expérience et leur vision pour l’avenir du secteur.
Carte blanche au Festival de Clermont-Ferrand (FR)
Une collaboration avec le festival du court métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, l’un des événements les plus influents dans le domaine, pour offrir à notre public genevois une sélection exclusive de courts métrages d’animation. Cette carte blanche permettra de remercier ce festival qui a en grande partie contribué à l’existence d’Animatou.
