At the top of Palatine Hill, actors in Roman costumes give a representation of Cornelius' play.
The Straubs seize a play by Corneille, the adaptation of which is envisaged here as a fight against any form of artifice: no theater stage, nor professionals, but amateur actors, filmed on Palatine Hill while the rustle of Roman traffic below covers the Alexandrians. The ear is stretched, the eye is attached to the smallest detail (magnificent photograph by Renato Berta), with the feeling of discovering the verb in a form never before seen.

Au sommet du mont Palatin, des acteurs en costumes romains, donnent une représentation de la pièce de Corneille.
Les Straub s'emparent d'une pièce de Corneille, dont l'adaptation est envisagée ici comme une lutte contre toute forme d'artifice : pas de scène de théâtre, ni de professionnels, mais des acteurs amateurs, filmés sur le mont Palatin pendant que le bruissement de la circulation romaine en contrebas couvre les alexandrins. L'oreille se tend, l'œil s'attache au moindre détail (magnifique photographie de Renato Berta), avec le sentiment de découvrir le verbe sous une forme jusqu'alors jamais vue.

Op de top van de Palatijn geven acteurs in Romeinse kostuums een voorstelling van het toneelstuk van Cornelius.
De Straubs grijpen een toneelstuk van Corneille, waarvan de aanpassing hier wordt overwogen als een strijd tegen elke vorm van kunstwerken: Geen theater podium, noch professionals, maar amateur acteurs, gefilmd op de Palatijn terwijl de ruzie van het Romeinse verkeer hieronder de Alexandriërs bedekt. Het oor is uitgerekt, het oog is verbonden met het kleinste detail (prachtige foto van Renato Berta), met het gevoel het werkwoord te ontdekken in een vorm die nog nooit eerder is gezien.
