Das Centre empfängt das Duo Greet Brauwers & Raf Custers für einen Moment des Austauschs rund um ihre interaktive Installation A Seat for the Sea_Shells. Dieses Werk lädt zu einer sensorischen und kritischen Erfahrung ein, bei der das Eintauchen in die akustische und taktile Materie die Spannungen zwischen ozeanischer Faszination und extraktivistischer Gewalt offenbart.
Der Mensch und das Meer stehen in einer undefinierbaren Pulsierung in Spannung. Jeder menschliche Versuch, sich in sie einzutauchen, blendet, jedes Bad verwundert und doch frustriert, denn dieses Element ist uns fremd. Diese Installation führt das Publikum in eine andere Ambiguität. Er fängt die sanfte Ruhe des Ozeans ein, wird jedoch mit destabilisierendem gedrucktem Text und in regelmäßigen Abständen mit einem brutalen metallischen Quietschen konfrontiert. Eine Harmonie, die mehr als unterminiert ist, das, was auch den Meeresboden erwartet, wenn die Bagger die Zähne in die Krusten und polymetallischen Knötchen stecken.
A Seat for the Sea gibt uns das Gefühl einer neuen Gewalt, die des Abbaus der Tiefsee. Dieser Extraktivismus steht bevor. Es geht um die Metalle im Ozean. Niemand kann seine Auswirkungen einschätzen.
Lassen Sie uns in die Dämmerung eines Meeresmikrokosmos hinabsteigen. Die Anlage ermöglicht es, eine Muschel mit dem Ohr zu fangen, das Gehör des Meeres, den Geruch des Meeres, die Algen zu berühren. The Centre welcomes the duo Greet Brauwers & Raf Custers for a moment of exchange around their interactive installation A Seat for the Sea. This work calls for a sensory and critical experience, where the immersion in sound and tactile matter reveals the tensions between oceanic fascination and extractivist violence.
Man and the sea are in tension in an undefinable pulsation. Every human attempt to immerse oneself in it dazzles, every bath amazes, and yet frustrated because this element is strange to us. This installation leads the public into another ambiguity. He captures the serenity of the ocean sound but is confronted with destabilizing printed words and, at regular intervals, a brutal metallic creak. A harmony more than undermined, this is what also awaits the seabed when excavators put teeth in the crusts and polymetallic nodules.
Seat for the Sea makes us feel a new violence, that of the mining of the deep sea. This extractivism is imminent. It goes after the metals of the ocean. No one can estimate its impact.
Let’s go down into the darkness of a marine microcosmos. The installation allows you to catch, a shell in your ear, the sound of the sea, the smells of the sea, to touch the algae. Let us immerse ourselves in this soothing force. Let us remain, resist in this posture as long as we can. Until the speeches soften and justify the colonization of this virgin territory.
Like a haptic portal, the installation offers a critical look at the emerging deep-water mining industry. This adventure splits, sometimes carried away by a techno-seductive confusion intended by the industrialists. Then it joins as quickly as possible the organisms of the deep sea, the currents, the sediments, the long history: our companions of road, in their element.

Il Centro accoglie il duo Greet Brauwers & Raf Custers per un momento di scambio intorno alla loro installazione interattiva A Seat for the Sea_Shells. Quest'opera convoca un'esperienza sensoriale e critica, in cui l'immersione nella materia sonora e tattile rivela le tensioni tra il fascino oceanico e la violenza extrativista.
L'uomo e il mare si tengono in tensione in una pulsazione indefinibile. Ogni tentativo umano di immergersi in esso abbaglia, ogni bagno stupisce, e tuttavia frustrato perché questo elemento ci è strano. Questa installazione conduce il pubblico in un'altra ambiguità. Cattura la serenità sonora dell'oceano, ma si trova di fronte a parole stampate destabilizzanti e, a intervalli regolari, a un brutale cigolio metallico. Un'armonia più che messa a repentaglio è ciò che attende anche i fondali marini quando gli escavatori mettono i denti nelle croste e nei noduli polimetallici.
A Seat for the Sea ci fa sentire una violenza nuova, quella dell'estrazione mineraria dei grandi fondali marini. Questo estrusismo è imminente. Va dopo i metalli dell'oceano. Nessuno può stimare il suo impatto.
Scendiamo nella penombra di un microcosmo marino. L'installazione permette di catturare, una conchiglia all'orecchio, l'udito del mare, gli odori del mare, toccare le alghe. Immergiamoci in questa forza calmante. Rimaniamo, resistiamo in questa posizione finché possiamo. Fino a quando i discorsi ammorbidiscono e giustificano la colonizzazione di questo territorio vergine.
Come un portale tattile, l'installazione offre uno sguardo critico sull'emergente industria mineraria in acque profonde. Questa avventura si biforca, portata talvolta da una confusione tecnoseductrice voluta dagli industriali. Poi raggiunge al più presto gli organismi delle profondità marine, le correnti, i sedimenti, la lunga storia: i nostri compagni di strada, nel loro elemento.

Le Centre accueille le duo Greet Brauwers & Raf Custers pour un moment d’échange autour de leur installation interactive A Seat for the Sea_Shells. Cette œuvre convoque une expérience sensorielle et critique, où l’immersion dans la matière sonore et tactile révèle les tensions entre fascination océanique et violence extractiviste.
L’homme et la mer se tiennent en tension dans une pulsation indéfinissable. Toute tentative humaine de s’y immerger éblouit, tout bain émerveille, et frustré pourtant car cet élément nous est étrange. Cette installation conduit le public dans une autre ambiguïté. Il capte la sérénité sonore de l’océan mais est confronté à des propos imprimés déstabilisants et, à intervalles réguliers, à un grincement métallique brutal. Une harmonie plus que mise à mal, c’est ce qui attend aussi les fonds marins lorsque les excavatrices mettent les dents dans les croûtes et les nodules polymétalliques.
A Seat for the Sea nous fait sentir une violence nouvelle, celle de l’exploitation minière des grands fonds marins. Cet extractivisme est imminent. Il va après les métaux de l’océan. Nul ne ne peut estimer son impact.
Descendons dans la pénombre d’un micro-cosmos marin. L’installation permet de capter, un coquillage à l’oreille, l’ouï de la mer, les odeurs de la mer, de toucher les algues. Immergeons-nous dans cette force apaisante. Restons, résistons dans cette posture tant que nous pouvons. Jusqu’à ce que les discours adoucissent et justifient la colonisation de ce territoire vierge.
Tel un portail haptique, l’installation offre un regard critique sur l’industrie émergente qu’est l’exploitation minière en eaux profondes. Cette aventure bifurque, emportée parfois par une confusion technoséductrice voulue par les industriels. Puis elle rejoint au plus vite les organismes des profondeurs marines, les courants, les sédiments, l’histoire longue: nos compagnons de route, dans leur élément.

El Centro da la bienvenida al dúo Greet Brauwers & Raf Custers para un momento de intercambio en torno a su instalación interactiva A Seat for the Sea_Shells. Esta obra convoca una experiencia sensorial y crítica, donde la inmersión en la materia sonora y táctil revela las tensiones entre fascinación oceánica y violencia extractivista.
El hombre y el mar se mantienen en tensión en una pulsación indefinible. Todo intento humano de sumergirse en ella deslumbra, todo baño asombra, y sin embargo frustrado porque este elemento nos es extraño. Esta instalación conduce al público en otra ambigüedad. Capta la serenidad sonora del océano, pero se enfrenta a palabras impresas desestabilizadoras y, a intervalos regulares, a un crujido metálico brutal. Una armonía más que dañada, es lo que también espera los fondos marinos cuando las excavadoras ponen los dientes en las costras y los nódulos polimetálicos.
Un asiento para el mar nos hace sentir una violencia nueva, la de la explotación minera de los grandes fondos marinos. Este extractivismo es inminente. Va tras los metales del océano. Nadie puede estimar su impacto.
Descendemos a la penumbra de un microcosmos marino. La instalación permite captar, una concha al oído, el oído del mar, los olores del mar, tocar las algas. Sumérganse en esta fuerza calmante.
