Fleeing the misery into which she has fallen since she was widowed, Rosaria abandons her Calabria to settle in Milan. With her young sons, she joins the eldest, Vincenzo, who preceded them. After many disappointments, Rosaria manages to rent a basement where she can settle her family. Rocco and Simone, two of his sons, quickly find work and develop a passion for boxing. Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 1960, 'Rocco and his brothers' is a unique object in Visconti’s work. It marks the director’s meeting with the duo Alain Delon-Claudia Cardinale. A duo that he will reunite again for «The Leopard», in 1963.

Rocco et Simone, deux de ses fils, trouvent rapidement du travail et se prennent de passion pour la boxe. Prix spécial du jury à la Mostra de Venise en 1960, «Rocco et ses frères» est un objet à part dans l'oeuvre de Visconti. Il scelle la rencontre du réalisateur avec le duo Alain Delon-Claudia Cardinale. Un duo qu'il réunira à nouveau pour «Le Guépard», en 1963.

Rosaria ontvlucht de ellende waarin ze is gezonken sinds ze weduwnaar was, en laat Calabrië in de steek om zich in Milaan te vestigen. Met haar jonge zonen, sloot ze zich aan bij de oudste, Vincenzo, die hen had voorafgegaan. Na vele teleurstellingen weet Rosaria een kelder te huren waar ze haar familie kan vestigen. Rocco en Simone, twee van zijn zonen, vonden snel werk en werden gepassioneerd door boksen. Speciale juryprijs op het Filmfestival van Venetië in 1960 is "Rocco en zijn broers" een bijzonder object in het werk van Visconti. Het sluit de vergadering van de directeur af met het duo Alain Delon-Claudia Cardinale. Een duet dat hij herenigd heeft voor "Le Guétah", in 1963.
