Gegenüber dem transatlantischen Fährhafen erhebt sich ein großes rosarote Gebäude, das Hôtel Atlantique. Erbaut 1922 auf Initiative von drei großen Reedereien, die Cherbourg mit Amerika verbinden, ist es das Werk des Architekten René Levavasseur. Dieses wunderschöne Art-Déco-Ensemble beherbergt ständig 2.000 Emigranten während der 10 bis 15 Tage, die erforderlich sind, um ihre Verwaltungsformalitäten zu erledigen und sich den Gesundheitskontrollen zu unterziehen, bevor sie in die Neue Welt aufbrechen. Der Besuch bietet einen Einblick in die Zeit, als Cherbourg ein großer transatlantischer Hafen war, und ermöglicht den Eintritt in den schönen Pavillon mit dem Refektorium mit 800 Plätzen, dem heutigen Saal der CCI-Kommissionen.

In front of the transatlantic terminal, a large pink building stands out: the Hotel Atlantique. Built in 1922 at the initiative of three major shipping companies connecting Cherbourg to America, it is the work of the Cherbourg architect René Levavasseur. This beautiful Art Deco ensemble permanently welcomes 2,000 emigrants for the 10 to 15 days needed to settle their administrative formalities and submit to health checks, before the great departure to the New World. The visit offers a dive into this era when Cherbourg was a great transatlantic port and allows to enter the beautiful pavilion housing the refectory of 800 seats, current room of the commissions of the CCI.

Di fronte alla stazione marittima transatlantica, un grande edificio rosa si impone alla vista: l'Hôtel Atlantique. Costruito nel 1922 su iniziativa di tre grandi compagnie marittime che collegavano Cherbourg all'America, è opera dell'architetto René Levavasseur. Questo bel complesso Art Déco accoglie in permanenza 2.000 emigrati per i 10-15 giorni necessari a sbrigare le formalità amministrative e a sottoporsi ai controlli sanitari, prima della grande partenza verso il Nuovo Mondo. La visita offre un'immersione in quell'epoca in cui Cherbourg era un grande porto transatlantico e permette di entrare nel bellissimo padiglione che ospita il refettorio da 800 posti, attuale sala delle commissioni della CCI.
