The participation of the University of Évora’s Department of Archaeology, through the Pinho Monteiro Archaeology Laboratory, in the European Archaeology Days (EAD) underscores the institution’s commitment to the preservation, research, and dissemination of knowledge regarding cultural heritage. Over the past 20 years, the University of Évora has balanced community service and regional planning with scientific research. This extensive practical and scientific experience serves as the direct foundation for the institution’s educational program, embodied in its BA in History and Archaeology, Master and PhD in Archaeology, which offers advanced and specialized training directly focused on the subject, preparing new professionals based on real-world cases and methodologies developed in the region.
The presentation of this historical overview, featuring students and archaeologists (alumni) who have been working in archaeological heritage safeguard, aims to share with the public the successes, the challenges, and the knowledge generated over two decades of activity and teaching. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the European Archaeology Days (EAD) by bringing citizens closer to the work that protects collective memory. Through this sharing, the university encourages debate on best practices in conservation, the training of new generations of archaeologists, and the future of heritage management
