- Joseph René Bellot, ein junger Marineoffizier, der in Rochefort in einem bescheidenen Milieu aufwuchs, war zu einer guten Karriere verplant.
- Im Alter von 27 Jahren ertrank er 1853 bei seiner zweiten Seefahrt in die Arktis. Er beteiligte sich an der Suche nach der Nordwestpassage, die den Atlantik mit dem Pazifik verband, auf den Spuren der Expedition des englischen Seefahrers und Entdeckers Sir John Franklin.
- Sein Verschwinden löste damals auf beiden Seiten des Ärmelkanals starke Emotionen aus. In Greenwich bei London wurde eine Granitstele zu Ehren des "unerschrockenen jungen Bellot" errichtet. In Rochefort wurde zu seinem Gedenken ein imposantes und originelles Cenotaph auf dem Friedhof geschaffen, wo er sich heute noch befindet.
- Anlässlich des 200. Geburtstags von Joseph René Bellot soll diese Ausstellung die wichtigsten Meilensteine seiner Karriere darstellen.
- Sie wurde auf der Grundlage von Dokumenten, Karten und Büchern erstellt, die ihm gehörten und die sein jüngerer Bruder Anselme Bellot, ebenfalls ein Seemann, der der SGR am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts gab. Letzterer hinterließ 1904 ebenfalls einen größeren Fonds in der Mediathek von Rochefort. Einige Gegenstände aus diesem Bestand wurden seitdem in das Musée Hèbre der Stadt überführt.

- Young naval officer, raised in Rochefort in a modest environment, Joseph René Bellot was promised to a great career.
- He accidentally drowned in the ice in 1853, aged 27, during his second naval expedition to the Arctic Ocean. He was then participating in the search for the Northwest Passage, connecting the Atlantic to the Pacific, in the footsteps of the expedition of the English navigator and explorer Sir John Franklin.
- At the time of his disappearance, there was great emotion on both sides of the Channel. In Greenwich, near London, a granite stele was erected as a tribute to the "intrepid young Bellot". In Rochefort, an imposing and original cenotaph was carved in his memory in the cemetery, where he still remains.
- Organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth, this exhibition aims to retrace the major stages in the career of Joseph René Bellot.
- It was prepared from documents, maps and books that belonged to him, which his younger brother Anselme Bellot, also a sailor, gave to the SGR at the end of the 19th century. The latter also deposited, in 1904, a larger fund at the media library of Rochefort. Some objects from this collection have since been transferred to the city’s Hèbre museum.

- Giovane ufficiale di marina, cresciuto a Rochefort in un ambiente modesto, Joseph René Bellot era destinato ad una bella carriera.
- Si annegò accidentalmente nel ghiaccio nel 1853, all'età di 27 anni, durante la sua seconda spedizione navale nell'oceano Artico. Partecipò alla ricerca del Passaggio del Nord-Ovest, che collegava l'Atlantico al Pacifico, sulle tracce della spedizione del navigatore e esploratore inglese Sir John Franklin.
- La sua scomparsa suscitò, all'epoca, una forte emozione su entrambe le sponde del Canale. A Greenwich, nei pressi di Londra, venne eretta una stele di granito in omaggio all' "intrepido giovane Bellot". A Rochefort, un imponente e originale cenotafio fu scolpito in suo ricordo nel cimitero, dove si trova tuttora.
- Organizzata in occasione del 200o anniversario della sua nascita, questa mostra mira a riportare le tappe principali del percorso di Joseph René Bellot.
- È stata preparata a partire da documenti, mappe e libri che gli appartenevano, che suo fratello minore Anselme Bellot, anch'egli marinaio, diede alla SGR alla fine del XIX secolo. Quest'ultimo depositò anche, nel 1904, un fondo più importante alla mediateca di Rochefort. Alcuni oggetti provenienti da questo fondo sono stati successivamente trasferiti al museo Hèbre della città.

Jeune officier de marine, élevé à Rochefort dans un milieu modeste, Joseph René Bellot était promis à une belle carrière.
Il se noya accidentellement dans les glaces en 1853, à l’âge de 27 ans, lors de sa seconde expédition navale dans l’océan Arctique. Il participait alors à la recherche du passage du Nord-Ouest, reliant l’Atlantique au Pacifique, sur les traces de l’expédition du navigateur et explorateur anglais Sir John Franklin.
Sa disparition souleva, à l’époque, une vive émotion des deux côtés de la Manche. À Greenwich, près de Londres, une stèle en granit fut érigée en hommage à « l’intrépide jeune Bellot ». À Rochefort, un cénotaphe imposant et original fut sculpté à sa mémoire dans le cimetière, où il se trouve toujours.
Organisée à l’occasion du 200e anniversaire de sa naissance, cette exposition vise à restituer les grandes étapes du parcours de Joseph René Bellot.
Elle a été préparée à partir de documents, cartes et livres lui ayant appartenu, que son jeune frère Anselme Bellot, marin lui aussi, donna à la SGR à la fin du XIXe siècle. Ce dernier déposa également, en 1904, un fonds plus important à la médiathèque de Rochefort. Certains objets issus de ce fonds ont depuis été transférés au musée Hèbre de la ville.

Participó entonces en la búsqueda del paso del Noroeste, que unía el Atlántico con el Pacífico, siguiendo las huellas de la expedición del navegante y explorador inglés Sir John Franklin.
- Su desaparición suscitó, en aquella época, una viva emoción a ambos lados del Canal. En Greenwich, cerca de Londres, se erigió una estela de granito en homenaje al "intrépido joven Bellot". En Rochefort, un cenotafio imponente y original fue esculpido en su memoria en el cementerio, donde se encuentra todavía.
- Organizada con ocasión del 200 aniversario de su nacimiento, esta exposición tiene como objetivo restituir las grandes etapas del recorrido de Joseph René Bellot.
