The painting "Edith finding the body of Harold after the battle of Hastings" painted by Horace Vernet in 1828, was restored in 2020 by the team of restorers of the Lab of the Heritage Factory in Normandy.
During the proposed animations, we will explain all the underside of this restoration, the scientific imaging techniques associated with this work, and, more generally, the missions of our pole. ------ La Fabrique de patrimoines en Normandie est un Établissement Public de Coopération Culturelle (EPCC) pour la connaissance, la valorisation, la conservation et la restauration des patrimoines ethnologique et muséographique en Normandie.
Its missions are organized around three poles:

  • the Museums Network,
  • the Ethnopole
  • and Le Labo, Conservation, Restoration & Scientific Imaging.
The latter has a research sector applied to the preservation of heritage and carries out advisory, assistance, training and information tasks and provides services of examination, diagnosis, preventive conservation and conservation-restoration of easel paintings and graphic documents. The Heritage Factory in Normandy has state-of-the-art equipment for scientific imaging. This equipment makes it possible to carry out a set of examinations on the heritage properties entrusted to it. These images reveal the material history of the objects and refine our knowledge of the objects to specify the acts of restoration, in the context of scientific studies or operations of valorization.
