Although he was never officially affiliated with the Conservatoire, Edmond Boissier's contribution to the international reputation of the Geneva Botanical Garden is huge.

A tireless traveller, Edmond Boissier (1810-1885) quickly established himself as the leading specialist in the flora of the Iberian Peninsula and the Middle East, on which he worked until his death in close collaboration with his friend Georges Reuter (1805-1872), curator of his herbarium.
The Boissier herbarium, completed by his son-in-law William Barbey (1842-1914), contains around 200,000 samples. Containing all the types of his Flora Orientalis, it is now considered by the international botanical community to be one of the most important in the world. It is a "closed" herbarium: its samples are never lent out but can be consulted on site.

Bien que n'ayant jamais été officiellement affilié au Conservatoire, la contribution d'Edmond Boissier à la renommée internationale des CJBG est immense.

Voyageur infatigable, Edmond Boissier (1810-1885) s'impose rapidement comme le grand spécialiste de la flore de la péninsule Ibérique et du Moyen-Orient, sur laquelle il travaille jusqu'à sa mort en étroite collaboration avec son ami Georges Reuter (1805-1872), conservateur de son herbiers.
L'herbier Boissier, complété par son gendre William Barbey (1842-1914) est composé d'environ 200'000 échantillons. Riche de tous les types de sa Flora Orientalis, il est considéré aujourd'hui par la communauté botanique internationale comme l'un des plus importants au niveau mondial. C'est un herbier "fermé": ses échantillons ne sont jamais prêtés mais peuvent être consultés sur place.
